OXFORD — Even though some say Tiger Stadium loses some of its intimidation factor when the sun is still up, there’s no doubt the environment will be hostile for Ole Miss this Saturday against LSU.
But judging from recent history, that actually might play right into the Rebels’ hands.
Ole Miss has played in three particularly tough stadiums this season on the road against Florida, Alabama and Arkansas. The Rebels won two of those games and nearly upset the then No. 2-ranked Crimson Tide before a late rally fell short.
“I think it really helps this team know what to expect,” Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said.
UM offensive coordinator Kent Austin was the Rebels’ quarterback in the mid-’80s and said the trip to play LSU is always one of the most intense.
“That’s what makes college football exciting,” Austin said. “You want to play in that kind of environment. If you can’t get ready to play in a game like this, there’s something wrong with you.”
Jackson pit stop
The football team will make a stop during its bus trip down to Baton Rouge, eating at Tico’s Steak House on County Line Road.
Nutt said the team would fly back after the LSU game because of the short week to prepare for the Egg Bowl on Friday, Nov. 28.
