Harbison aims to keep D on tried, true path

STARKVILLE — Ellis Johnson, the mentor, is gone.
He’s off to South Carolina, where his Gamecocks defense shut out North Carolina State Thursday night on national television.
Charlie Harbison, the old friend, is here – as Mississippi State’s defensive coordinator, heading to Louisiana Tech for tonight’s season opener to try to duplicate the success Johnson had 48 hours prior.
When he goes, he’ll be using much of the same stingy, bend-don’t-break defense on which Johnson spoiled MSU fans in his four-year stay that ended after last season.
