Dooley no stranger to the SEC

Dooley no stranger to the SEC
Louisiana Tech head coach Derek Dooley has been around the Southeastern Conference his whole life.
As the son of longtime Georgia coach and athletic director Vince Dooley and a former LSU assistant himself, you can see why he might be a little excited to have an SEC opponent in Mississippi State dropping by for the first game of the season.

“There is a lot of excitement having an SEC football team coming to Ruston,” Dooley said. “It’s a national TV game and these are the kind of games that we certainly want to be in as a program. I feel like we’ve had a good camp and we’ll see if we’re ready to play.”
After a 5-7 season in 2007, Dooley feels this game will give him a good gauge on where his squad is but it will not make or break their season.
“These kind of games are a good barometer of where your program is,” Dooley said. “Certainly, we don’t look at this game as this is THE game or our only game. We’ve got 11 more to play after this. It’s a quality opponent and an SEC opponent who had tremendous success last year. We haven’t played well in these kind of games before.”
