Even Nick Saban can’t halt Julio Jones hype
Nick Saban told the truth. A YouTube favorite is not the same as a SportsCenter play of the day.
Not even if it stars the greatest freshman wide receiver in the history of the school/the game/the world. Whoever he is.
“We make guys stars around here before they ever do anything,” the Alabama coach said at Thursday’s post-practice presser.
He’s said it before and he’ll probably say it again, but every time he says it, the message rings louder than Denny Chimes.
Don’t make a splash before a player gets thrown in the deep end.
“That’s not good for them,” Saban said. “They need to go prove it on the field. When they go prove they can do it on the field, then you ought to write about them.
