As league coaches and star players gather today in Hoover, Ala., for the SEC’s annual football media days, they represent a conference that has epitomized success in college football the last five years.
Three national titles, and what could have been a fourth with 13-0 Auburn in 2004, give the SEC many reasons to boast that it plays the best brand of football in the college game.
Or you can count all that record television and bowl revenue to make that case.
It’s testament to the SEC’s lure and clout that coaches such as Alabama’s Nick Saban (formerly the Miami Dolphins coach) and Arkansas’ Bobby Petrino (Atlanta Falcons) now consider the SEC a pinnacle instead of a career springboard.
