Groves should get an early call

Groves should get an early call
AUBURN By Saturday afternoon, Quentin Groves will know where he will begin his pro football career.

He should also know whether his future is as an NFL linebacker, a defensive end or some combination of the two.

Groves tops the list of Auburn’s NFL prospects on what could be a busy first day.

Most projections list Groves as a late first-round or early second-round choice. Defensive tackle Pat Sims and safety Patrick Lee could quickly follow in the second or third rounds.

On Sunday, as many as seven more Tigers could be waiting anxiously for either draft or free-agent opportunities.

Groves spent most of his Auburn career as an end, but played some hybrid linebacker in 2007 as former defensive coordinator Will Muschamp experimented with the 3-4 set.

Groves has said most of the teams want him to play linebacker where his size and speed would make him a natural fit but a handful are also looking at him as an end. Groves said his college experience makes him eager to play either spot.
