The seven-member council voted unanimously in passing a resolution calling for a new Mississippi State Flag.
Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes presented the resolution.
“The flag is going to change one day,” Stokes said. “It will take people to move us forward.”
Stokes said a lot of people, both black residents and white residents, are calling for a new state flag.
Mayor Tony Yarber appealed to the christian community to voice their approval for changing the state flag.
