Five things from the Jackson City Council meeting:
The seven-member council voted unanimously in passing a resolution calling for a new Mississippi State Flag.
Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes presented the resolution.
“The flag is going to change one day,” Stokes said. “It will take people to move us forward.”
Stokes said a lot of people, both black residents and white residents, are calling for a new state flag.
Mayor Tony Yarber appealed to the christian community to voice their approval for changing the state flag.

The man accused of opening fire at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner referred to himself as a “Friendly Federal Assassin” in writings sent to family members minutes before the shooting.
