COCHRAN COMMENDS SGT. MAJOR RONALD GREEN, MISS. NATIVE & TOP ENLISTED MARINE
WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Senator Thad Cochran (R-Miss.), chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and its Subcommittee on Defense, today commended the service of Sgt. Major Ronald L. Green, a native of Jackson, Miss., who was recently named the Sergeant Major of the U.S. Marine Corps.
“Sergeant Major Green is admirable for his decorated service and his commitment to the well-being of all Marines. It was a pleasure to meet an outstanding fellow Mississippian and to thank him for his dedication to our nation and the U.S. Marine Corps,” said Cochran, who met with Green late Tuesday afternoon.
In January, Green was named the 18th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps by Marine Corps Commandant General Joseph Dunford. With this appointment, Green became the Commandant’s top enlisted adviser. In this role, he will testify before Congress annually, travel to visit rank-and-file troops around the world, and influence issues that affect the lives of the Corps’ soldiers.
A graduate of Jim Hill High School, Green attended Alcorn State University before joining the Marine Corps in 1983. A career artilleryman with undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Maryland University College, Green has built a reputation as a strong advocate of military family support services and readiness programs over the course of his 31-year military career.
