Miss. Legislature: Chairmen expect ‘very busy session’
Senate Elections Chairman Chris McDaniel, R-Ellisville, lost a storied GOP primary runoff against incumbent U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran last year, after Cochran appealed to Democratic voters to help him with the Republican primary. McDaniel, who filed a lawsuit but failed to overturn the race, said he wants his committee to consider legislation “ending forever the unconstitutional and improper practice of party raiding.”
“Republicans should be able to select their nominees without outside interference from Democrats,” McDaniel said. “… In June of 2014, more than 40,000 Democrats participated in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate, corrupting the primary process and negating the will of the Republican majority. This practice must not be allowed.”
