Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran slams aldermen, pushes for tax increase
Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran heavily criticized her board of aldermen and championed the cause of a city-wide tax increase during recent quasi-public meetings, according to two city aldermen who were present.
During a recent meeting with representatives from Mississippi Power Company, Moran suggested “maybe some of the aldermen need to be replaced,” according to alderman Fred “Chic” Cody, who was present for the meeting.
“She threw us under the bus,” said Cody. “I don’t appreciate being slammed or put down when I’m doing everything I can for the city. You can’t slam the board (of aldermen) and board of supervisors — the people who help you the most.”
According to both Cody and aldermen John Gill, Moran criticized the board for its unwillingness to raise city ad valorem (property) taxes and said city services are in decline as a result.
