Though normally thought of as a political kingmaker in Democratic circles, Rep. Bennie Thompson has had his political endorsement overturned not once but twice in the last two weeks in the mayoral election in Jackson.
First Thompson endorsed Melvin Priester in a crowded field. This was noteworthy because it appeared Thompson did play some factor in helping Chokwe Lumumba in 2013. After Priester he failed to make the runoff, Thompson endorsed Chokwe’s son Antar Lumumba who got beat soundly by Tony Yarber in the runoff.
It’s not often that federal candidates get involved in local races . . . and lose. Twice. In a month.
