Congressman Bennie Thompson speaks at chamber luncheon
U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson is known as a liberal Democrat and Andy Taggart is known as a staunch Republican shared the same table and Taggart blessed the food moments before Thompson spoke today before approximately 200 people at the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership luncheon at the Jackson Convention Complex.
Thompson needled Taggart a couple times during his speech about the Republican Party and President Obama’s administration, but said “we can differ but we can love our country.”
Thompson mere presence speaking to the chamber group, consisting of a lot of the business leaders in the metro area, was somewhat of a surprise, but Socrates Garrett, the chair of the chamber’s board, said the 2,500 strong organization is moving across racial and territorial lines.
