District 12 Senator Derrick T. Simmons was named Mississippi Association of Justice “Legislator of the Year” during its annual conference on Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Ritz Carlton in New Orleans.
The organization has a goal of ensuring the justice system is fair, promotes integrity and provides protection and relief to all citizens, especially those who struggle to afford adequate representation.
Senator Simmons has advocated fairness in all areas of the law and has argued on the senate floor against measures that he thought went too far in infringing upon the rights of less fortunate citizens.
“I am overjoyed that the hard working and dedicated lawyers at MAJ deemed me worthy to receive such an esteemed honor.”
Senator Simmons, D-Greenville is co-founder of Simmons and Simmons PLLC in Greenville, along with his twin brother, Errick. D. Simmons.
In May 2012, Senator Simmons was awarded the Magnolia Bar Association’s Government Service Award for making a difference in the lives of his constituents and all Mississippians by ensuring the interests of his Delta constituents and all Mississippians were protected by the laws passed at the Capitol.
