Voter Registration Deadline Approaches
Jackson—Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann would like to remind everyone the deadline to register to vote in the November 6, 2012, General Election is October 6, 2012.
State law requires Circuit Clerks’ offices to be open from 8:00 am-12:00 pm the Saturday before the deadline for voter registration.
“I encourage everyone not to wait until the last minute to register to vote,” says Secretary Hosemann. “Voting is our most important right and the key to our democracy. Remember all of those who have fought and died for your right to cast a ballot in this upcoming General Election, and honor their memory by registering to vote today.”
Voters may also register by mail. Forms are available at your local Circuit Clerk’s office, as well as on the Elections portion of the Secretary of State’s website at www.sos.ms.gov. Mail-in voter registration applications must be postmarked by Saturday, October 6, 2012.
Eligible military and overseas voters are afforded an extended registration period in Mississippi. The deadline for our military personnel to register to vote is October 27, 2012, ten days prior to the election.
