Entergy Mississippi Begins Restoration Effort
JACKSON, Miss. – As Isaac trudges slowly through Entergy Mississippi’s service area, crews are assessing the damage and working to restore power to the tens of thousands of customers without.
“Every storm is different, and Isaac has certainly been a storm unlike any we’ve seen before,” said Haley Fisackerly, Entergy Mississippi president and CEO. “It’s definitely leaving its mark as it moves through our service area. We have damage over a large part of the 45 counties we serve in western Mississippi, and although our crews are out working, it could be a long restoration process.”
Gusting winds are posing a challenge for crews as truck buckets can’t be safely raised in winds higher than 30 miles per hour. That means crews repairing lines sometimes have to stop and go back to the ground in the middle of a restoration effort. Flooding, downed trees and other hazards also hamper efforts to restore power safely.
“Our priority is to assess damage and restore power to customers safely and quickly, but safety trumps speed,” said Fisackerly. “We have crews working 16-hour days until we restore power to everyone who can take power.”
