Two Mid-South senators ask Holder to investigate leaks
Sens. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and Roger Wicker of Mississippi are among 31 senators who have signed on to a letter asking Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder to immediately appoint a special counsel to investigate national security leaks.
The two Mid-Southerners said Tuesday that Holder’s recent appointment of two U.S. attorneys to investigate the leaks fails to provide for the “independence and authority” of an outside, independent counsel.
The letter-writing effort, organized by the office of Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., takes note of stories in The New York Times and of “Confront and Conceal,” a new book by New York Times reporter David Sanger that quote unidentified sources revealing what they call “highly classified and sensitive military and intelligence matters.”
