Clarion Ledger Opinion – Voter ID needs close look
Former Secretary of State Dick Molpus may or may not be right on legal grounds in asking Attorney General Eric Holder to block implementation of the state’s Voter Identification Law, but he makes some strong points in reconsidering the law.
As The Clarion-Ledger reported, Molpus, a Democrat, says the new law, adopted by Mississippi voters Nov. 8, would violate the Voting Rights Act by disenfranchising many Mississippians.
“My request is that you protect those who would be excluded from our democracy by this ill-conceived law,” Molpus wrote Holder Friday in a letter.
