What SENATE BILL 2736 Does …
•Prohibits state tax dollars from being spent on television and radio advertising to promote state
government agencies and programs and the politicians that lead them
•Creates common sense rules for buying advertising to protect our tax dollars and create more transparency
•Requires competitive bidding for government agency advertising just as is required with other state
service contracts
•Continues to allow legal notices, job listings, and other newspaper advertising as well as advertising
by state colleges and universities
•Allows TV and radio advertising using federal funds if a federal grant requires advertising as part
of the program guidelines
What SENATE BILL 2736 Does not Do ….
•Does NOT prevent advertising in newspapers
•Does NOT end public service announcements required by the federal government
•Does NOT include restrictions on legal notices or job announcements published in newspapers
•Does NOT prevent advertising by state colleges or universities
