Proposed amendments likely to die in committee
Republican-sponsored bills in the Senate defining Mississippi as a pro-life state and prohibiting a governor from pardoning the most serious offenders likely will die at the hands of a Democratic chairman today.
Senate Judiciary B Committee Chairman Hob Bryan of Amory would not definitively say whether he would bring up the proposed constitutional amendments. The bills passed the Senate Constitution Committee on Monday but also must pass his group before today’s committee deadline.
Bryan stressed amendments to the state constitution are serious and should be considered carefully.
