Harper applauds USSC decision

By: Magnolia Tribune - January 18, 2012

Dear Friend,

A recent U.S. Supreme Court decision unanimously upheld the long-honored “ministerial exemption” that allows churches to make employment decisions without government interference.

Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC originated when a teacher at a Lutheran school was fired for failing to comply with the church’s beliefs. This case is widely believed to be one of the most important religious liberty cases of the decade.

I applaud the Supreme Court’s opinion which reaffirms our nation’s religious heritage. Our country was founded on faith based values that inspired Founding Fathers like John Witherspoon to instill conservative principles into American government.Though trials like this have challenged and will continue to challenge conservative ideals, they have not swayed my resolve to stand up for the values on which our country was founded.

God bless,
