Republicans will control both chambers of the Mississippi Legislature starting in January, and they should have a realistic chance to pass policy proposals that have been blocked the past few years in the Democratic-controlled House.
Bills to expand charter schools should gain traction, as should those to enact Arizona-style checks for immigrants’ legal status.
Without a doubt, Republicans will push for more disclosure about contracts the attorney general’s office makes with private lawyers to handle lawsuits for the state.
And, the GOP should have a fairly easy time getting most of what it wants in legislative redistricting.
