For the second time in two months, Miko Beasley Denson is facing off today against opponent Phyliss J. Anderson for the $466,000-a-year position to head the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
Voters in eight tribal communities will return to the polls. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.
In a runoff in July, Anderson defeated the incumbent 1,971 to 1,618 in official returns.
Three days after Anderson’s win, the Tribal Council tossed out the June election results, thus negating the runoff results as well. Since then, an unexpected candidate, Shirley Berg, has joined the race as well.
