DeDemocrats hold fundraiser in Desoto County

DeSoto Democrats want to heighten awareness of a reviving two-party system as they raise campaign funds with a reception and dinner with local and state party candidates, including governor, on Aug. 26.

“It’s a celebration of democracy and a great way to meet and hear all our candidates under one roof,” said Michael Smith, second vice chairman of the county party organization.

The event at Whispering Woods Hotel and Conference Center in Olive Branch starts at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception; the program and dinner begin at 7:30.

Slated to speak will be the winner fresh from the Aug. 23 runoff for the Democratic nod for governor: Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree faces Clarksdale businessman and attorney Bill Luckett.
