Advanced Mississippi Chairman Says Barbour Announcement Good News for the Future
Jackson, Miss —Advance Mississippi Chairman Glenn McCullough said Governor Haley Barbour’s announcement that Mississippi has been named the top site for oil and gas investment is good news for the future of Mississippi. The Fraser Institute recognition of Mississippi as a top location world-wide for investment in oil and gas energy validates Mississippi as a state blessed with rich energy resources from leading clean coal technologies to soon to be the largest single reactor nuclear station in the U.S. to over 19 million acres of timber providing immense biomass capacity. All Mississippians can be proud of this global designation which recognizes Governor Barbour’s leadership implementing sound energy policy powering future economic growth
“Mississippi is rich in energy resources from clean-coal to what will soon be the largest nuclear reactor in the country to renewable energy in biofuels and agricultural waste. The Global Petroleum Survey 2011 by the Fraser Institute confirms we’re still top in oil and gas investment as well. This demonstrates the success of Governor Barbour’s sound energy policy and we congratulate the state on this well earned recognition,” said Advance Mississippi Chairman Glenn McCullough.
Governor Barbour announced the report on July 6 and cited new energy projects including KiOr Inc., Gulf LNG, Denbury Resources Inc., and a $1 billion enhancement by Chevron.
McCullough, a former Chairman of TVA, continued, “When economic developers around the country look for a stable energy state to make investments, and when foreign companies look for a place in the United States to locate, reports like this strengthen Mississippi’s competitive ability to attract those new jobs.”
