MDOT planning $1B in I-10 upgrades
JACKSON COUNTY — Mississippi Department of Transportation officials said they’re working on $1 billion in total upgrades to Interstate 10, and those plans include widening the entire road to six lanes through Jackson County and replacing the bridges over the Pascagoula River.
Southern District Transportation Commissioner Wayne Brown said the Jackson County work could take 10 years to 15 years to complete, depending on funding, as bridge work would require lengthy environmental studies and lots of engineering.
Officials said they also have plans after the Jackson County work is complete to take on similar efforts in Hancock County, where lower traffic counts are seen. MDOT said it would study options for a wider bridge over the Pearl River, among upgrades there.
