Gov. Haley Barbour civil rights law comes into effect
The legislation that was signed into law five years ago will now come into effect.
Five years after Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour signed it into law, a civil rights/human rights curriculum becomes mandatory in public schools.
The Republican governor, whom many expect to run for president in 2012, has had a number of run-ins when discussing the state’s history in race politics.
