Insurance company, Paul Minor seek to recusals in dispute
Attorneys for an insurance company suing imprisoned former Gulf Coast lawyer Paul Minor want Minor’s attorney, former state Supreme Court Justice Oliver Diaz, thrown off the case.
At the same time, Minor is trying to get U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate, who presided over his criminal case, removed from hearing the $12.5 million lawsuit brought by USF&G Insurance Co. against Minor and others.
USF&G says Diaz should be removed because he may be called as a witness.
USF&G Insurance Co. is suing Minor, Peoples Bank, and former Chancery Judge Wes Teel. Minor and Teel were convicted of judicial corruption charges related to a suit by Peoples Bank against USF&G.
