Panel: BP’s “insufficient consideration of risk” contributed to Gulf oil spill
A group of technical experts said in an interim report Wednesday that BP’s “insufficient consideration of risk” and “a lack of operating discipline” helped lead to the April 20 Deepwater Horizon rig incident and Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
The 28-page report from the National Academy of Engineers said several failures in the monitoring of the Macondo well contributed to the blowout and explosion. But the panel said it may be impossible to find out exactly what happened since much of the evidence was lost when 11 workers were killed and the rig exploded.
