GOP’s VIPs on the way to stump for Nunnelee

Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, the U.S. House’s top Republican, and other GOP leaders reportedly are on their way to support Alan Nunnelee’s campaign for Congress.

The Nunnelee campaign declined official confirmation, but informed spokesmen said Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia also are scheduled for events before the Nov. 2 general election.

Nunnelee, a state senator from Tupelo, faces incumbent U.S. Rep. Travis Childers, a Democrat from Booneville. Seven other independent candidates and non-mainstream party nominees also are on the ballot.

Boehner’s visit a week from today will be the 1st District’s second politically high-profile stop in a week. Today, former President Bill Clinton rallies for voter turnout with Childers in Oxford.
