CL – Barbour’s growing national prominence irks local dems
At home, Barbour’s busy schedule opens him to criticism that he’s out of touch and out of reach amid a state fiscal crisis.
“With Haley Barbour, it’s kind of like playing, ‘Where’s Waldo?'” Rep. Cecil Brown, D-Jackson, said recently at an education rally at the Capitol.
Barbour was on his way back from Utah that day.
He spent the previous day meeting with Republican governors there, discussing a plan for dealing with the health care legislation Congress had passed the night prior.
Another problem with popularity is it’s hard to please everyone. Morris said Barbour was “less involved” in the health care debate than he would have liked.
“We could have used a more active presence out there,” Morris said. “But he does have a state to run.”
