Jucos seeking more money

Mississippi’s community college system is not shying away from requesting more money – even as the state faces continued revenue shortfalls.

Community college leaders met with state lawmakers Wednesday to outline their funding requests for the coming fiscal year.

While many agencies are trying to trim their budgets to meet this year’s fiscal constraints, the community college system cited increased enrollment and state benefit in asking for millions in additional support.

“I understand it’s a tough year – a real tough year,” said Eric Clark, executive director of the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges. “Community colleges are making our state – our citizens – more prosperous.”
