Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. said Monday that the Jackson Police Department’s large civilian work force is the result of the number of responsibilities the department handles.
Those civilian jobs include school crossing guards, code enforcement officers, community relations workers and forensic lab technicians, while other cities may not have those same responsibilities inside their police departments, he said.
