PSC rejects Kemper plant expedited approval
The Mississippi Public Service Commission recently rejected Mississippi Power Co.’s request for an expedited approvals process for its proposed $2 billion coal burning plant, which would be built in Kemper County if the commission approves.
The company wanted to make it easier to meet what it thought was a November 2013 federal deadline for the plant to be in operation to get $133 million in tax credits. But the company has recently learned from the Internal Revenue Service it can have the plant in operation by May 2014 and still receive the credits.
