Mississippi’s unemployment rate fell nearly a point to 8.6 percent in April matching the national average, according to figures released today.
The rate remains significantly higher than the 5.6 percent rate from April 2008, the state Department of Employment Security reports. It was 9.4 percent in March.
About 3,100 more people were employed in April than the previous month with construction and hospitality industries seeing the largest gains.
