BREAKING — Miss. leaders agree to 68 cent per pack cigarette increase

Mississippi smokers may have to start paying more for a pack of cigarettes.

The lawmakers negotiating a tax increase agreed today to raise the 18 cents per pack tax to 68 cents. If the increase is approved by the full legislature and Gov. Haley Barbour, it will go into effect May 15

Lawmakers agreed to use some of the revenue to prevent a significant increase in the cost of car tags.
