GOP lawmakers, governors pull together
House and Senate Republicans have been “actively coordinating” with Republican governors to fight the Democratic policies put forward by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and President Obama.
In the latest effort, leadership aides tell The Hill that South CarolinaGov. Mark Sanford — the chairman of the Republican Governors Association — and House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) have made a concerted effort to agree onmessages to oppose “the president’s jobs-killing cap-and-trade proposaland promote the GOP alternative routes to clean energy.”
This is the second high-profile effort in which GOP governors and congressionalleaders have teamed up to publicize their opposition to Democratic policies.Last month, at the urging of Boehner, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour gavethe GOP radio address criticizing the president’s budget.
Barbour, a key player in bringing about the Republican Revolution in 1994 from hisposition as head of the Republican National Committee, worked hand-in-hand withBoehner as the GOP took control of Congress for the first time in 40 years.
