HB 1090 passed the House after some conservative led procedural setbacks yesterday.
The bill seeks to move the public utilities staff under the political control of the Public Service Commission. The structure espoused in the legislation was directly reponsible for corruption in the 1980s and 1990s where two PSC Commissioners were sent to prison for bribery and corruption.
The bill’s fate in the Senate and with the Governor, who appoints oversight to the public utility staff is uncertain.
