Council rejects $50K proposal for ex-guards’ attorney’s fees

By: Magnolia Tribune - December 17, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 12/16/8

The Jackson City Council did not approve a proposal Tuesday night that would have given $50,000 to Mayor Frank Melton’s former police bodyguards to pay attorney fees from their 2007 state trial.

The request died in a 3-3 vote. A similar request was denied by the council in October.

Councilmen Frank Bluntson, Kenneth Stokes and Charles Tillman voted in favor of the ordinance. Councilmen Jeff Weill and Marshand Crisler, as well as Councilwoman Margaret Barrett-Simon, voted against it.

The proposal, by Bluntson and Stokes, would have given $30,000 to Marcus Wright and $20,000 to Michael Recio.
