Federation of Madison County Homeowners Associations board members passed a resolution Tuesday night to request that 3 mills of a 6.33-mill tax increase be rescinded by supervisors because of questions regarding notice given to the public.
Supervisors voted Sept. 2 to increase property taxes by 6.33 mills after a public hearing in which a 3.33-mill increase was discussed.
“The belief is that the 3.33-mill increase was properly noticed,” said John Moore, an attorney who is Annandale’s delegate to the board. “On the other 3 mills, if they (supervisors) followed the letter of the law, they didn’t follow the spirit of the law. It’s fundamentally unfair.”
