A policy analyst for a Washington think tank says Mississippi needs to consider a tax credit to help low- and middle-income working families.
Jason Levitis with the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities said in an interview Wednesday that Mississippi lawmakers should consider creating an earned-income tax credit similar to one in neighboring Louisiana. The center describes itself as nonpartisan on its Web site.
“One of the things you want a tax system to do is to reward work — to give working families a chance to work their way up,” Levitis told The Associated Press. “And one of the ways you can do that is just by not taxing working, moderate families too much.”
