Aug. 26, 2006: A duplex on Ridgeway Street sustains major damage during a visit by Mayor Frank Melton and his entourage, including police bodyguards Marcus Wright and Michael Recio. Witnesses say the trio used sledgehammers and other implements to tear open the front of a duplex the mayor said was being used to sell drugs.
Sept. 2, 2006: Melton acknowledges being at the duplex but says “I never had a sledgehammer in my hand.”
July 9: A federal grand jury in Jackson returns a three-count indictment
against Melton, Recio and Wright on civil rights violations.
