Ever since the gubernatorial campaign ended, I have tried to refocus my full attention on work, family, church and daily activities. But Mississippi’s current Medicaid situation remains an issue that affects so many lives that I feel compelled to speak out.
Our state health care system is unaffordable and out of reach for so many Mississippians. I continue to hear of so many of our residents who cannot receive needed medical treatment because of the huge costs and debt their families must incur to pay for care.
Haley Barbour has proposed paying for Medicaid shortages by increasing the tax on hospitals, making medical treatment even more unaffordable for many of our residents. His proposal will unduly burden the vulnerable hospitals and medical providers in poorer regions of our state.
