Mississippi transportation officials are seeking a private company to build the airport parkway then operate it for 50 years as a toll road to finance the construction.
The parkway would link downtown Jackson, starting at High Street, to Jackson-Evers International Airport.
After 50 years, ownership of the parkway would be turned over to the state.
The toll likely would be $1 or $1.25 each way, said Butch Brown, executive director of the Mississippi Department of Transportation. Construction is set to begin in February 2010.
