Monday deadline for pretrial motions in Scruggs case
The defense team has hinted at what pretrial motions it may prepare, listed in a Jan. 11 motion asking for more time, which Biggers granted.
They anticipate motions to suppress all materials seized from the Scruggs law firm and all wiretapped conversations; “misleading” summaries of conversations and meetings; and omission of calls and non-corrupt meetings and statements.
Also under consideration were motions to dismiss the indictments based on “outrageous government conduct;” severance motions; tape recordings, Counts 2-4, conspiracy issues and regarding jury selection to ensure a fair trial.
