Barbour doesn’t want state funds used for recovery

In his budget proposal released Thursday, Gov. Haley Barbour has chosen again this year not to dip into state funds for Hurricane Katrina recovery.

Barbour said the billions of federal dollars that the state has received have met South Mississippi’s needs so far.

“The Katrina money to a very high percent has all been federal money and we have made it a policy of not spending state money when you can spend federal money,” Barbour said. “The federal government has been generous enough.”
