City Council defends travel tab

By: Magnolia Tribune - January 11, 2008

The Clarion-Ledger, 1/11/8

The Jackson City Council and Mayor Frank Melton combined to spend more than $13,000 on travel during the same period the city was struggling to balance a $2.3 million budget shortfall, records show.

But officials defended the travel as important for the city and unrelated to Jackson’s money problems.

Five City Council members spent a total of $9,776 to attend a meeting of the National League of Cities in New Orleans from Nov. 13-18. The expenses were within budget.
