The speakership of the House is a powerful political position statewide, and it requires a breadth and depth of experience, plus knowledge of paramount issues, for effective management.
McCoy understands fully that the House is the legislative chamber closest to the people. It is no one’s fiefdom, and it is especially, appropriately resistant to forces outside the chamber itself.
McCoy fully understands the importance of those independent characteristics. At the same time, he has proven his willingness during his tenure as speaker and through the years to work across party, sectional, racial and even philosophical lines to bring about consensus and results.
We believe his extensive portfolio and his proven leadership support his re-election for a second term in the speaker’s chair.
