Miss. lawmakers to be tapped for $129M in education funding

Piecemealing reform through the state Legislature hasn’t worked in the past, education advocates say. So this time, they’re trying something different.

In the upcoming session, the Mississippi Department of Education will present lawmakers with an omnibus bill that will cost at least $129 million and cover everything from fully funding the state’s basic education program to more money for at-risk kids.

But with a tight budget year anticipated, some of the high-dollar proposals could get nixed once they get to the floor.
