The county’s Democratic Party, strapped for cash after fighting two election-related lawsuits, may be getting financial help from the taxpayers.
Hancock County Democratic Executive Committee Chairman Robert Davis appeared before county supervisors Monday, asking them to give the party $2,750 for legal fees. The committee has been a defendant in two lawsuits this year, both challenging results of the Democratic Party primary in August.
Supervisors agreed to the payment, provided the State Auditor’s Office declares it legal. Three of the county’s five supervisors – Rocky Pullman, Steve Seymour and David Yarborough – are Democrats.
