GOP presidential candidate picking up endorsements in Jackson visit

By: Magnolia Tribune - November 20, 2007

The Clarion-Ledger, 11/19/7

Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson has picked up endorsements from several big-name Mississippi GOP members including Insurance Commissioner-elect Mike Chaney.

“I’m a conservative today and I’ll be a conservative tomorrow,” said Thompson, before mingling with Republican heavy-hitters at a tribute dinner for Mississippi Republican Chairman Jim Herring. “You never have to wonder where I stand. Where I stand does not depend on where I’m standing at any particular moment or what particular office I’m running for.”

Both U.S. Rep. Roger Wicker, a Republican and Thompson’s distant relative, and U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran have already thrown their weight behind Thompson.
